Frequently Asked Questions
Why don’t you accept insurance?
At this time, I provide services through private pay only. This allows me to focus fully on individualized, high-quality care without the restrictions and limitations insurance companies often place on therapy frequency, duration, or setting. Families are able to decide what works best for their child, not the insurance company.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt I can provide after each session. It includes the necessary information (diagnosis codes, treatment codes, provider information) for you to submit directly to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Whether reimbursement is available depends on your plan, so I recommend calling your insurance provider for details.
What does an evaluation consist of?
An evaluation is the first step in getting to know your child and their needs. It includes:
A parent/caregiver interview to learn about your child’s history, strengths, and challenges
Standardized and observational assessments of motor, sensory, and daily living skills
Observations of your child in natural routines
A written report with recommendations and individualized goals
What do sessions look like?
Therapy sessions are personalized, engaging, and collaborative. Depending on your child’s needs, sessions may focus on:
Fine motor skills (writing, grasping, cutting)
Gross motor skills (balance, coordination, strength)
Daily living skills (dressing, feeding, hygiene routines)
Self-regulation and sensory processing strategies
Visual and ocular motor development
AAC accessibility and support for non-verbal communication
Family and caregiver training to carry over skills into daily routines
Sessions typically occur in the home, daycare, community, or via telehealth when appropriate. Each lasts up to 50-60 minutes.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
As part of the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) of expected costs for therapy services if you are uninsured or not using insurance.
Your estimate will include:
The cost of your child’s evaluation
Projected costs for ongoing therapy sessions based on frequency
Any additional fees that may apply
This estimate helps you plan for the cost of services. Actual needs may change as your child progresses, and you will always be kept informed of any updates. A written GFE will be provided before services begin, and you may request one at any time.
How often will my child need therapy?
Every child’s therapy plan is individualized. After the evaluation, I will recommend a frequency (for example, once a week, twice a month, or consultative check-ins) based on your child’s goals, needs, and family priorities.
Do you offer caregiver or family training?
Yes! A major part of my therapy approach includes coaching caregivers and families so you feel confident carrying over strategies into your child’s daily routines. This helps skills generalize more quickly and supports lasting progress.
Do you only work with certain diagnoses?
Not at all. I work with children of various abilities and diagnoses, including autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delays, ADHD, Down syndrome, sensory processing challenges, and children who are medically complex. I also support kids without a formal diagnosis who may just need extra help building certain skills.
Where do sessions take place?
In your home — support in your child’s natural environment
Daycare or preschool — collaboration with teachers and staff
Community settings — playgrounds, stores, and real-world spaces
Telehealth — when in-person sessions are not possible
